What Mastery Looks Like

A student measures five pencils to the nearest centimeter and places one mark above each matching value on a line plot. The scale uses whole centimeters and shows repeated values with stacked marks.

Common Misconceptions

Students may record partial units, use uneven scale intervals, or place a mark between whole-number values. They may forget that each plot mark represents one measurement.

How to Assess It

Give students five paper strips to measure to the nearest centimeter. Ask them to make a whole-unit line plot and explain any stacked marks.
