What Students Need to Do
- Students investigate questions with multiple sources, refocusing as evidence develops. They generate related questions that open more than one productive path for further exploration.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student revises the inquiry in response to findings and combines information across sources. Several related questions identify distinct, researchable directions for continued work.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may collect facts before defining a clear question or treat each source as a separate summary. They may keep an unworkable question even when the evidence suggests a better focus.
How to Assess It
- Provide a source set and broad question. Ask students to refine the inquiry, synthesize two findings, and propose two distinct avenues for further research.
