What Students Need to Do: Students support claims with logical reasoning and relevant evidence from credible sources. They demonstrate accurate understanding of the topic or text.
What Mastery Looks Like: The student develops each reason, integrates credible evidence, and explains its connection to the claim. Support is relevant and sufficient for the scope of the claim.
Common Misconceptions: Students may treat source credibility as a substitute for reasoning. They may include evidence that is relevant but too limited to support a broad conclusion.
How to Assess It: Provide a claim and mixed-source evidence. Ask students to write a supported paragraph that evaluates credibility, explains logic, and addresses evidence sufficiency.
