What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify sources of income, such as wages, allowance, gifts, or business earnings. They use expected take-home income to decide how much can be spent, saved, or shared.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a financial scenario, students can calculate total monthly income and explain why a spending plan begins with that amount. They revise the plan when income changes.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat savings, loans, or credit limits as income. They may plan expenses before checking available income. Some also confuse gross pay with the take-home amount available after deductions.
How to Assess It
- Use this exit ticket: Maya takes home $300 each week. How much income should she use for a four-week plan, and why should she find that amount first?

Teams draw income-change cards, revise a $1,500 monthly budget, and earn a point when planned spending and saving stay within income.
