What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify jobs connected to Georgia’s road, air, water, and rail systems. They explain how each system creates direct jobs and supports other work.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students name several occupations tied to each transportation system, such as truck drivers, pilots, dockworkers, and train engineers. They explain how moving people and goods creates additional jobs.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think transportation jobs are limited to drivers and pilots. They may also overlook mechanics, cargo handlers, dispatchers, warehouse workers, security staff, and construction crews.
How to Assess It
- Give students a four-row chart labeled road, air, water, and rail. Have them list two Georgia jobs per row and explain one connection in writing.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs Georgia job cards and a state map; students place each job by road, air, water, or rail and justify their choices.
Ask: Which transportation system creates the widest range of Georgia jobs? Students write a claim using three named occupations as evidence.
Play Transportation Job Match: teams pair occupation cards with systems, then earn a bonus point for naming a related support job.
Examine job postings from Hartsfield-Jackson, the Port of Savannah, a trucking firm, and CSX; compare duties, skills, and locations.
