What Students Need to Do: Students explain how each system selects its executive leader and how that leader works with the legislature. They compare terms, removal from office, and the roles of head of government and head of state.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students correctly classify a government from a short description and cite two details as evidence. They explain that a prime minister depends on legislative support, while a president serves separately from the legislature.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think a prime minister is directly elected by all voters or that every president has unlimited power. They may also confuse the titles of leaders with the way power is organized.
How to Assess It: Give students two anonymous government descriptions. Ask them to label each system and underline one detail that proves each choice.

Lesson moves
