Expectations in This Standard
4.GSR.7 is a Georgia mathematics standard. These are the expectations under it.
- 4.GSR.7.1
Recognize angles as geometric shapes formed when two rays share a common endpoint. Draw right, acute, and obtuse angles based on the relationship of the angle m...
- 4.GSR.7.2
Measure angles in reference to a circle with the center at the common endpoint of two rays. Determine an angle’s measure in relation to the 360 degrees in a cir...

What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify angles and compare their sizes using degrees. They estimate angle measures, then use a protractor to measure and check their estimates.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students estimate an angle using familiar angles such as 45, 90, and 180 degrees. They place a protractor correctly, choose the correct scale, and record a reasonable measurement.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think longer rays make a larger angle. They also misread the inner and outer protractor scales or fail to align the vertex and baseline.
How to Assess It
- Give students one printed angle and ask them to estimate its measure, then measure it with a protractor and explain whether the result is reasonable.

Ways to Teach It
Join two craft sticks with a brad, build several angles, estimate each measure, then check each estimate with a protractor.
Display a 70-degree angle and ask, “How do you know this angle is greater than 45 degrees but less than 90 degrees?”
Play angle match with cards showing angle drawings, estimates, and measurements, then have pairs justify each completed set.
Find angles in classroom objects, such as scissors, door hinges, and clock hands, then estimate and measure three examples.
