What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students find pictures, words, or pages that help answer a question. They use more than one source and explain how the information connects.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can point to a useful picture, word, or page and explain how it answers a question. The student can name one connection between two sources on the same topic.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may point to any picture instead of one that answers the question. They may answer from memory or assume two sources must give exactly the same information.
How to Assess It
- Show two picture texts about bees. Ask, “What do both sources teach about where bees find food?” and have students point to evidence in each.

Ways to Teach It
Place two animal books and photo cards at a table, then have students mark useful evidence with sticky notes.
Read two short texts about rain, then ask, “What idea appears in both sources?”
Play Source Match by having students pair question cards with pages or pictures that provide an answer.
Compare a weather forecast and a clothing chart, then ask students to choose clothes and cite both sources.
