What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students work with a partner or small group toward one clear result. They listen, take turns, share ideas, complete a role, and make simple decisions together.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student takes turns, listens, shares useful ideas, and completes an agreed role. The student can ask for help, respond kindly, and help the group finish a shared product.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think working together means sitting near a partner or letting one person do everything. They may interrupt, ignore ideas, or focus only on finishing their own part.
How to Assess It
- Give pairs four picture cards to arrange into a story. Check whether each student shares an idea, listens, takes a turn, and helps reach one agreed order.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs craft materials and assigned roles to build a paper bridge that can hold three crayons.
Ask, “What does a helpful partner say and do?” Record student examples on a class chart.
Play Partner Retell, where students alternate adding one event from a familiar story without repeating an event.
Have small groups plan a classroom job schedule, choosing who will organize books, collect papers, and check supplies.
