What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students compare cash, debit cards, credit cards, checks, and digital payments. They consider fees, interest, convenience, security, and spending limits for a specific purchase.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a purchase scenario, students choose a suitable payment method and explain why. They can calculate added costs and name a benefit and drawback of each option.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think debit and credit cards use money in the same way. They may overlook interest, transaction fees, overdraft charges, fraud risk, or delayed payments.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: You must pay $60 for a class trip. Choose cash, debit with a $2 fee, or credit with $1.20 interest, then explain one benefit and one drawback.
