What Students Need to Do: Students describe each thinker’s main ideas about leadership, behavior, and social order. They compare Laozi’s harmony, Confucius’s moral example, and Han Fei Zi’s strict laws.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students match teachings and short scenarios to the correct thinker. They explain each match using details such as simplicity, respect for relationships, or rewards and punishments.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think Laozi’s nonaction means laziness or that Confucius relied on strict punishment. They may also confuse Han Fei Zi’s clear, enforced laws with random cruelty.
How to Assess It: Give students three school leadership scenarios. Ask them to identify which thinker would support each scenario and cite one teaching as evidence.

Lesson moves

Have groups sort teaching cards onto Laozi, Confucius, and Han Fei Zi mats, then defend two choices with evidence.
Ask students to write which thinker should advise a new ruler and support their choice with two specific teachings.
Play a scenario relay where teams identify the thinker, name the clue, and earn a point only when both are correct.
Compare classroom management plans based on personal example, limited interference, or firm rules with rewards and consequences.
