What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students convert a positive fraction to a terminating decimal by dividing the numerator by the denominator. They convert between decimals and percentages and show that each form names the same value.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can write 3/8 as 0.375 and 37.5% without changing its value. They can check the result using division or multiplication by 100.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat the denominator as the decimal digits, writing 3/8 as 0.38. They may multiply by 100 incorrectly or confuse 0.4 with 4%.
How to Assess It
- Give an exit ticket: Write 7/20 as a decimal and a percentage, then show one calculation that proves all three forms are equal.

Ways to Teach It
Have students shade fraction strips and hundred grids to model fractions such as 1/2, 3/4, and 1/5, then label each decimal and percentage.
Ask students to explain why 0.6 and 60% name the same amount, using a drawing or equation as evidence.
Give pairs cards showing fractions, decimals, and percentages, then have them race to build matching sets and verify each match.
Use store sale signs such as 25% off and 0.25 off each dollar, then ask students to rewrite each discount as a fraction.
