What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students ask a focused question and gather useful information from several reliable sources. They organize notes, paraphrase key facts, and keep track of where each fact came from.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student uses more than one reliable source and records relevant facts in organized notes. The student paraphrases information, answers the research question, and identifies each source.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may trust the first search result or choose a source only because it matches their opinion. They may copy sentences, collect unrelated facts, or forget where information came from.
How to Assess It
- Give students three short sources about school gardens. Ask them to choose the two most reliable sources, record one relevant fact from each, and explain their choices.

Play Source Detective by awarding points for spotting an author, publication date, evidence, and signs of bias on sample webpages.
Have students research two options for a class purchase, then recommend one using facts from store listings and product reviews.
