What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students share information and ideas aloud in a clear, organized way. They adjust volume and pace, listen closely, and respond to questions or comments with relevant details.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student presents ideas in a logical order with clear speech, suitable volume, and steady pace. The student listens to others, asks relevant questions, and responds with details.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may speak too softly, rush, or read every word from notes. They may also give ideas out of order or answer questions without referring to what another speaker said.
How to Assess It
- Ask each student to explain a familiar classroom routine in 30 seconds, using a clear sequence, audible voice, and complete sentences.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs three picture cards to arrange, then have each student tell the pictured story using sequence words.
Ask students to discuss which class rule helps learning most, then support their choice with two reasons.
Play Speaker Detective, where listeners identify one clear detail and one question after each 30-second talk.
Have students record a short school announcement that includes the event, date, location, and one action listeners should take.
