The Standard
Use technology, including the Internet, to produce, publish, and update individual or shared writing products, taking advantage of technology's capacity to link to other information and to display information flexibly and dynamically.

What This Standard Means
Students need to use digital tools to draft, revise, publish, and update writing for history, science, or technical topics. They should know how to add links, organize information clearly, use visuals or embedded media when useful, and work with others in shared documents without losing track of changes.
Mastery looks like a clean, readable digital product that uses technology for a purpose, not decoration. Students can explain why a link, chart, image, comment, or revision helps the reader. They often get stuck by pasting in weak links, overloading slides, ignoring comments, or treating the first published version as final.
Ways to Teach It
- Have students turn a lab report or history paragraph into a Google Site page with two source links, one image, and one revision note.
- Ask students to write a short reflection explaining which digital feature most improved their piece and why it helped the reader.
- Check one shared document for a working link, visible revision history, one resolved comment, and a clear title.
- Show students a city health dashboard or museum webpage, then have them name two ways it presents information better than plain text.
What This Unlocks
Mastery here sets students up for these next.
