What Students Need to Do
- Students compare how one cell carries out life processes with how specialized cells, tissues, organs, and systems share those jobs. They connect structures such as vacuoles, membranes, cilia, and flagella to functions.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given two organisms, students identify each as unicellular or multicellular and support the choice with visible structures. They compare how each organism obtains food, moves, removes waste, and responds to its environment.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think unicellular organisms have no internal structures or cannot perform all life processes. They may also think every cell in a multicellular organism has the same structure and job.
How to Assess It
- Show diagrams of an amoeba and a human. Ask students to compare how each obtains nutrients and removes waste, naming the structures involved.
