- Students can show the same three-digit number with base-ten blocks, a drawing, a numeral, number words, and an addition sentence. They keep zero placeholders accurate and explain the value of each digit.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat each digit as a separate number or ignore a zero placeholder, writing 406 as 46. They may also write expanded form by listing digits, such as 4 + 0 + 6, instead of showing each digit’s value.
How to Assess It
- Give students the numeral 307. Ask them to write it in words, show its place values with a drawing, and write an addition sentence for its value.
