- Students count and describe the sides, vertices, and angles of each polygon accurately. They describe a circle as round and curved, with no vertices or angles. They recognize figures even when the size or direction changes.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse sides with vertices or count the same vertex twice. They may call a rotated square a diamond or think triangles must point upward. Some may say a circle has angles or vertices.
How to Assess It
- Show a triangle, square, rectangle, and circle on an exit ticket. Ask students to describe each figure using sides, vertices, angles, round, or curved.
