What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students compare how different groups view decisions about land, water, energy, labor, and equipment. They identify each group’s interests, evidence, expected benefits, and possible costs.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can explain why two groups reach different conclusions about the same proposal. They support each viewpoint with accurate evidence and judge the tradeoffs without relying on stereotypes.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat the loudest opinion as the strongest argument or assume all groups share the same goals. They may list viewpoints without checking evidence or considering economic, environmental, and social effects.
How to Assess It
- Give this exit ticket: A county may approve a new quarry. Name two stakeholders, explain each viewpoint, cite one supporting fact, and identify one tradeoff.
