What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students recognize and name each letter in capital and lowercase form. They match forms that represent the same letter, such as B and b.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students name letters when shown them in either form. They correctly pair capital letters with their lowercase partners, including pairs that look different, such as A and a.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think capital and lowercase forms are different letters, especially pairs such as G and g. They may also confuse letters with similar shapes, such as b and d or p and q.
How to Assess It
- Show six mixed capital and lowercase letter cards. Ask the student to name each letter and match every capital with its lowercase partner.
