What Students Need to Do: Students select useful details from more than one source and record them in clear, organized notes. They connect ideas across sources to form a broader explanation or conclusion.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students create clear notes from several sources using formats such as a chart, outline, or concept map. They group related ideas, identify each source, and combine details into an accurate explanation.
Common Misconceptions: Students may copy full sentences instead of recording brief notes in their own words. They may lose track of which source supplied each detail or summarize sources separately without connecting ideas.
How to Assess It: Give students two short texts on the same topic. Ask them to create organized notes, label each source, and write one sentence combining information from both.

Lesson moves

Give pairs three short articles and sticky notes; students color-code shared ideas, unique details, and source information on a chart.
Ask students to write: Which two source details fit together, and what new conclusion can you draw from them?
Run a note-format relay where teams convert the same passage into an outline, two-column notes, and a concept map.
Have students compare a menu, customer review, and nutrition chart to recommend a restaurant for a class celebration.
