What Students Need to Do: Students credit borrowed words, ideas, images, data, and AI assistance. They verify claims, follow copyright and privacy rules, and explain how technology shaped their work.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can submit a source-based product with accurate citations, clear labels for AI use, and no copied or invented material. They can explain what each tool contributed and how they checked its output.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think changing a few words makes a source their own. They may leave images, data, paraphrases, or AI assistance uncredited. They may also assume AI output is accurate and free from ownership concerns.
How to Assess It: Exit ticket: Mark three ethical problems in a sample paragraph containing an uncited paraphrase, an unchecked AI claim, and an uncredited image, then correct them.

Lesson moves

Give pairs a printed article, AI response, image, and data chart; have them add credits and flag claims needing verification.
Write for five minutes: When does using AI become misrepresentation, and what disclosure would make the use honest?
Run a citation repair relay using slides with missing credits, copied sentences, false links, and undisclosed AI content.
Examine a local news post and trace its claims, images, and data back to original sources before deciding whether to share it.
