What This Cluster Means

What Students Need to Do

Students explain who observes selected Texas traditions, what happens, and what the event means to the community. They describe a Texas artist's work and tell how it influenced Texas music and culture.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students correctly connect celebrations such as Cinco de Mayo, Oktoberfest, and Fiesta San Antonio with their communities and practices. They use specific evidence to explain how an artist shaped Texas culture.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day or that every person within a cultural group follows the same traditions. They may list facts about an artist without explaining the artist's cultural influence.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: Choose one Texas celebration and one Texas artist. Write two sentences explaining the celebration's meaning and the artist's contribution to Texas culture.
