What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students compare two versions of a system after one feature changes. They use measurements, ratios, tables, or models to explain the resulting change.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students identify the changed variable and keep other conditions constant. They make a supported prediction and cite data showing how the system responds.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may assume bigger always means stronger, faster, or better. They may confuse a scale factor with changes in area or volume, or change several variables at once.
How to Assess It
- Ask: “Two identical terrariums contain 2 and 10 pill bugs but equal food, water, and space. Predict one difference and explain why.”
