What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students compare evidence from several suitable sources before accepting a claim or choosing an option. They check author expertise, data quality, testing methods, accuracy, price, and long-term value.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given several sources, a student can identify which evidence is strongest and explain why. The student can spot method flaws, compare costs fairly, and support a decision with specific details.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may trust polished websites or top search results without checking who produced the evidence. They may count copied versions of one claim as separate sources. They may choose the lowest price without considering performance, lifespan, or cost per use.
How to Assess It
- Give students three short source cards about rechargeable and disposable batteries, including author, evidence, test method, price, and lifespan. Ask, “Which battery is the better choice, and which sources support your decision? Name one credibility, accuracy, or method concern.”
