- Students show a mathematical idea in more than one way, such as with an equation, graph, diagram, or written explanation. They explain how the representations connect and what each reveals.

- Students can represent one relationship with symbols, a diagram or graph, and clear language. They connect the representations and explain what conclusions follow from them.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may produce a graph or equation without explaining what it shows. They may also treat words, tables, and graphs as separate answers rather than connected representations of one idea.
How to Assess It
- Give students the equation y = 2x + 3. Ask them to graph it and write two sentences explaining the slope and starting value.
