What Students Need to Do

Students change a measurement from one unit to another within the same system. They use a known conversion relationship to build a proportion or unit rate, then calculate and label the result.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students select the correct relationship between two units and set up a valid proportion or unit rate. They calculate accurately, cancel or track units, and check whether the result is reasonable.

Common Misconceptions

Students may multiply when they should divide, or use a conversion factor backward. They may mix systems, drop unit labels, or assume every conversion uses a factor of 10.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: A ribbon is 3.5 yards long. How many inches is it? Show a proportion or unit-rate method and label the answer.
