What Students Need to Do
- Students show mathematical thinking with equations, diagrams, tables, graphs, or models. They explain their steps and justify claims using accurate terms, evidence, and logical reasoning.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students present ideas in a clear order using correct terms, symbols, labels, and units. They support each claim with a calculation, model, definition, example, or known property.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may give only an answer or list steps without explaining why the steps work. They may use vague words such as “it” or treat repeating a claim as justification.
How to Assess It
- Use this exit ticket: “Mia says 3/4 is greater than 5/8. Show a model, explain her claim, and justify your conclusion.”
