What Mastery Looks Like: Students can match a model, equation, or drawing that shows the same idea. They can explain what is alike or different using clear math words.
Common Misconceptions: Students may give an answer without explaining how the ideas connect. They may think models are different because they look different, even when they show the same amount.
How to Assess It: Show a ten-frame with 7 counters and the equation 5 + 2 = 7. Ask, “How does the equation match the ten-frame?”

Lesson moves
