Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat organization as a five-paragraph formula instead of choosing an order that fits their message. They may add transition words without showing clear relationships, or use many details that do not support the main idea.
How to Assess It
- Give students a short, disorganized draft and ask them to revise its opening, paragraph order, transitions, supporting details, and ending. Have them explain one change.
