- Students identify how an informational text connects events, results, challenges, and responses. They use details and signal words to explain how the ideas fit together.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students correctly name the way a passage is organized and point to details that prove their choice. They can state what led to a result, or explain the challenge and how it was addressed.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat any two events as a cause and a result, even when the text does not connect them. They may also confuse the problem with its cause, or name an attempted solution as the final result.
How to Assess It
- Give students a short paragraph about a playground flooding and a drain being cleared. Ask them to name the pattern and cite two details that show it.
