What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students show what they understood from a book, recording, image, or video through drawing or writing. They use details from the source to make their response clear and accurate.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student creates a drawing or written response that matches the source. The response includes accurate characters, events, facts, or ideas and explains a clear connection.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may draw an unrelated favorite part or copy words without showing understanding. They may also give an opinion but leave out details from the source.
How to Assess It
- Read a short passage aloud, then ask students to draw one key event and write two sentences explaining what happened and why it mattered.
