What Students Need to Do
- Students write clear how-to pieces and short reports. They organize facts or steps, add useful details, and use features such as titles, headings, lists, and sequence words.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students write a focused report with accurate facts and related details. They also write directions that another person can follow without asking questions.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may mix opinions with facts or list facts without grouping related ideas. In directions, they may skip steps, put steps out of order, or leave out needed materials.
How to Assess It
- Give students four picture cards showing how to wash hands. Ask them to order the cards, then write a title and clear directions using sequence words.
