What Students Need to Do: Students use ratio reasoning to convert units within one measurement system. They multiply or divide quantities while tracking how units transform.
What Mastery Looks Like: The student uses a valid conversion ratio and cancels or explains units correctly. The converted measurement is equivalent and has the requested unit.
Common Misconceptions: Students may multiply when they should divide or change the number without changing the unit label. They may attempt conversions across unrelated measurement systems.
How to Assess It: Provide the ratios 1 foot to 12 inches and 1 pound to 16 ounces. Ask students to convert 7 feet to inches and 96 ounces to pounds with labeled steps.
