What Students Need to Do
- Students locate integers and other rational numbers on horizontal and vertical number lines. They also plot ordered pairs of rational numbers on the coordinate plane.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student places values such as -1.5 and 3/4 accurately between labeled benchmarks. The student plots (-2.5, 1) with the correct coordinate order and quadrant.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may place negative values farther right as their magnitude increases. They may reverse x and y coordinates or ignore a coordinate sign.
How to Assess It
- Ask students to plot -3/2 on a horizontal number line, 5/4 on a vertical line, and (-2, 3/2) on a coordinate plane.
