What Students Need to Do
- Students understand an angle as two rays sharing an endpoint and as a portion of a turn around that endpoint. They connect angle size to the fraction of a full circle swept between the rays.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student identifies the common endpoint as the vertex and explains that one full turn contains 360 one-degree angles. The student recognizes a quarter turn as 90 degrees because it covers one fourth of 360.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may judge an angle by the length of its rays or treat the space near the vertex as unrelated to rotation. They may count ray markings rather than the amount of turn.
How to Assess It
- Show a right angle centered in a circle divided into four equal turns. Ask students to explain why the angle measures 90 degrees.
