What Students Need to Do: Students solve multiplication and division stories within 100 involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities. They choose an operation and represent the situation.
What Mastery Looks Like: The student solves a problem such as 6 bags with 4 apples each and explains why multiplication fits. The student can also solve equal-sharing and grouping problems.
Common Misconceptions: Students may multiply whenever two numbers appear without considering the question. They may confuse finding the number of groups with finding the size of each group.
How to Assess It: Ask students to determine the number of markers per box when 24 markers are packed equally into 6 boxes. Require a drawing and equation.
