What Students Need to Do
- Students adapt speech for different tasks, contexts, and audiences. They use formal English when it is appropriate.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student adjusts register, organization, examples, and delivery while keeping the message accurate. Choices reflect purpose and what the audience knows.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may equate formal English with jargon. They may change tone but not content depth, organization, or explanation.
How to Assess It
- Give a finding and two audiences, classmates and a formal civic panel. Ask students to deliver and justify an adapted version for each.
