What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain what the Bourbon Triumvirate, Henry Grady, cotton expositions, and Tom Watson’s Populists wanted for Georgia and how they pursued it. They compare appeals to industry, outside investment, farmers, political reform, and racial divisions.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a speech excerpt, platform statement, or exposition poster, students can identify the person or group and explain its purpose. They can compare competing plans for Georgia using accurate evidence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may view cotton expositions as simple farm fairs rather than campaigns for investment and industry. They may confuse Grady with Watson or assume the Populists supported racial cooperation throughout Watson’s career.

- Exit ticket: For each person, group, or event, name one goal and one method used to influence Georgia’s future.
