What Students Need to Do: Students identify goods made or harvested in colonial Georgia, including rice, indigo, deerskins, lumber, and naval stores. They distinguish physical goods from services such as blacksmithing, milling, carpentry, and shipping.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students can sort accurate examples into goods and services. They can name major trade goods and explain that merchants shipped many of them through ports such as Savannah.
Common Misconceptions: Students may treat every product promoted by the Trustees, including silk and wine, as a successful export. They may also confuse a service, such as milling grain, with the physical product being sold.
How to Assess It: Exit ticket: Sort rice, indigo, deerskins, lumber, blacksmithing, milling, carpentry, and shipping into goods or services. Star three goods commonly traded outside Georgia.

Lesson moves

Give pairs item cards to sort into goods, services, exports, and unsuccessful products, then require evidence for each choice.
Write a merchant's letter naming three Georgia goods for sale and two services needed before the ship leaves Savannah.
Run a category relay where teams place colonial economy cards under goods, services, produced locally, or imported.
Compare a colonial shipping list with a modern Port of Savannah cargo list, then identify two changes and one similarity.
