What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify how private businesses and governments make economic decisions in Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. They use evidence about ownership, regulation, and major industries to explain similarities and differences.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can place each country on a market-to-command continuum and defend each placement with accurate evidence. They also recognize that all three have mixed economies, not pure systems.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may label each country as purely market or command based on one industry. They may assume oil defines every economy, or confuse a country's political system with its economic system.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Place Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey on a market-to-command continuum. Give one fact for each placement and name one similarity shared by all three.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups country evidence cards on business ownership, oil, trade, and government control, then have them build and label a continuum.
Ask students: Which country gives government the largest economic role, and what two facts support your claim?
Run a three-corner game where students move to Israel, Saudi Arabia, or Turkey after hearing an economic clue and explain their choice.
Trace an Israeli app, Saudi oil shipment, and Turkish clothing item, then identify who owns and regulates each business.
