What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students work with a partner or small group toward one clear goal. They listen, take turns, share materials, contribute ideas, and help complete one shared task.
What Mastery Looks Like
- During a partner task, the student shares an idea, listens, takes a turn, and uses materials fairly. The student helps finish one shared product and can explain how each partner contributed.
Common Misconceptions
- Children may think working together means the fastest person does everything or each person makes a separate product. They may grab materials, interrupt, or refuse ideas instead of taking turns and solving disagreements.
How to Assess It
- Give each pair four picture cards to arrange in story order and glue onto one page. Check whether both children contribute, take turns, and agree on the order.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs craft materials to build one paper animal, with each child choosing and attaching at least two parts.
Ask, “What can you say when you disagree with a partner?” and record three respectful responses for students to practice.
Play Partner Puzzle, where children take turns placing pieces, asking for help, and checking whether the picture is complete.
Have groups assign classroom cleanup jobs, complete the cleanup, then report which teamwork choices helped them finish.
