What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students agree on an outcome, divide work fairly, and follow a clear plan. They contribute ideas, listen, build on others’ points, resolve disagreements, and complete their part on time.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student comes prepared, completes an assigned role, and helps combine individual work into one clear product. The student asks clarifying questions, gives specific feedback, and adjusts when the plan changes.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may split the task and never check how the pieces fit together. Some dominate, stay silent, confuse agreement with teamwork, or give vague praise instead of useful feedback.
How to Assess It
- Give teams a one-page article and 10 minutes to agree on its main claim and three supporting details. Collect one group response and each student’s note naming their contribution.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups sentence strips from a model essay to arrange, assign roles, and require one written reason for every placement.
Groups discuss when a team should revise its plan, then write a three-step agreement for handling missed work.
Run a jigsaw reading where each student summarizes one source, then the team creates one evidence-based recommendation.
Teams act as an editorial board and choose three articles for a class magazine, using criteria they create and record.
