What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use more than one print or digital source to answer a focused question. They judge whether each source is trustworthy and directly useful. They quote, paraphrase, and cite evidence without copying.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student selects credible sources that address the same question and explains why each belongs. The student blends quotations and paraphrases into original writing, names the sources, and includes basic citations.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may assume the first search result, a polished website, or any .org source is trustworthy. They may copy sentences, change only a few words, or list a URL without connecting evidence to their answer.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Give students two short source excerpts and ask which is more credible and relevant. Then have them write two sentences using a cited paraphrase from each source.

Ways to Teach It
Set out six printed source cards about school start times, then have groups sort them by credibility and relevance and defend two choices.
Have students write a four-sentence response explaining which of two sources best answers a question, citing details from both.
Play Source Detective: teams earn points for spotting missing authors, outdated dates, unsupported claims, and copied wording.
Compare online reviews for a familiar product, then choose the most trustworthy reviews and cite evidence for a buying recommendation.
