What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students connect steps in a clear order using words such as first, next, after, then, and finally. They choose linking words that show when actions happen.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given scrambled event cards, students place them in order and retell the event with accurate connecting words. They write a short narrative or procedure that flows clearly.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may use then for every connection or add first and finally without placing events logically. They often confuse before and after, or assume and always shows time order.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Write four sentences explaining how to pack a backpack. Use first, then, finally, and one sentence with before or after.
