- Students may name a strong word without explaining its effect. They may confuse a word’s dictionary meaning with its tone, or discuss personal reactions instead of audience and purpose.
How to Assess It
- Give students a short paragraph and ask them to identify one effective word, explain its effect, then replace it for a different audience.
