What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students create a text or presentation that combines words with visuals, audio, video, or design. They use it for two clear aims and shape their choices for a named audience. They also judge how well those choices work.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can create a product whose wording, images, layout, and sound fit a named audience. The product achieves two clear aims. The student can judge specific choices and revise weak ones.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may add images or sound that do not support the message. They may address a broad audience instead of making choices for a specific group. Self-evaluations often state personal likes rather than judging how well each feature works.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Create one slide that explains a school club to ninth graders and persuades them to join. Label two design choices, then rate each choice’s effectiveness.
