What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students help a team agree on expectations, divide work, set deadlines, and track progress. They speak up when the plan is not working and help the group make useful changes.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students help create a clear plan before work begins and adjust it when problems arise. They share responsibility, keep discussion focused, invite input, and address missed tasks without taking over.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think assigning roles once is enough, even when work becomes uneven. They may confuse productivity with one person taking control or completing most tasks. They may also set vague goals without deadlines or checkpoints.
How to Assess It
- Give teams 10 minutes to plan a class fundraiser. Check whether they record three team expectations, a clear goal, assigned tasks, deadlines, and one progress check.

Ways to Teach It
Teams build a paper tower after creating three norms, assigning roles, setting a five-minute plan, and pausing once to check progress.
Ask students to write which group norm prevents unequal work, then discuss how the team should respond when someone misses a deadline.
Run a role-rotation challenge where teams solve short puzzles, switch facilitator, recorder, and timekeeper each round, and score their teamwork.
Have teams plan a school event with a goal, task chart, deadlines, meeting rules, and a backup plan for unfinished work.
