What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students notice that stories, posters, videos, and recordings include different kinds of details. They choose ideas, words, and images that fit the text they are making.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can explain that a lost-pet poster needs a picture and contact details, while a story needs characters and events. The student creates a simple text with details suited to its form.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think the topic alone decides what information belongs in a text. They may include the same details in a story, poster, and recording, or treat pictures as decoration instead of information.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: You need to tell families about class pet day. Choose a poster, story, or audio announcement, then give two details that fit your choice.
