What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain how launches, research, and aerospace facilities have shaped Florida jobs, businesses, tourism, migration, and public spending. They connect space activity to Florida's identity, schools, museums, media, and community life.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can use specific Florida examples, such as Kennedy Space Center, to trace space activity to an economic or cultural change. The student explains that effects can be positive, negative, short term, or lasting.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think NASA conducts all space work, overlooking private companies, contractors, and tourism businesses. They may treat every effect as positive or confuse cultural effects with economic effects. They may also focus only on the Space Coast and ignore statewide effects.
How to Assess It
- Use this exit ticket: “Name one economic effect and one cultural effect of space exploration in Florida. Give a Florida example and explain each link in one sentence.”
